Happy new school year, Angevine!

Our blog and website are new this year. I'm so excited to start actively communicating with you about the ever-changing world of our library + innovation space.

Here are a few reminders as we get the year rolling:

The library is open!

AMS students can check-out two books at a time. They must know their lunch number to access check-in and out. Please help remind your child to return their books once they are done. We are always adding new books to the collection (sometimes, I'll update you here in the blog about that). Encourage your student to continue visiting to stay up-to-date with the latest reads.

When can your student visit the library?

In addition to being able to visit the library during passing periods and during a specific class period with their teachers, students can visit the library on their own a few different times most days of the week.

First, they can come by before school on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 7:30-8:30. There is a tutor in the library to help with homework, or students can work independently, read, get access to the internet, and print during this time.

Students can also visit the library during lunch. They need to go to lunch in the cafeteria, eat, then ask an adult for a pass to the library.

Lastly, students can also visit the library during E7- they have to get a pass from Ms. Barcheck before 7th period, so encourage them to plan ahead.

When a student comes to the library, what can they do?

Students have access to the Internet and a printer in the library. So, as long as it pertains to their learning and/or an assignment at school, they are able to access these resources anytime the library is open.

They can also search books, check-in and out books, read magazines, access our eLibrary (OverDrive!- more info on this in another post), participate in small craft projects, research topics, explore, create, learn, grow! There really is no limit to what your child can use the library for, as long as it's for their own betterment and learning.

Those are the basics. Please feel free to email or call with specific questions about our library procedures or your child's access in this space.

Next post, I hope to share the new displays my students aids are making for the library entrance. Keep an eye out for these in the coming weeks:

- Famous Immigrants who have changed America

- Inspiring quotes from popular young adult literature (YAL)

- Banned Book Week (Sept. 24th-28th)

- Bully Prevention Month (October)

Here are a few photos of those displays in progress:

Follow along here and at our new Angevine Library Instagram account (@angevinelib) for regular updates on what's rocking in the library.

Have a great weekend,

Liz Barcheck
