Happy Friday, Angevine Families!

Over the last few weeks, my fabulous student aids helped get our library display boards designed and made. I'm working to engage my aids this year to bring student voices and energy into everything we do in the library. Each of them have written about their display, here's what they have to say:

Emely and I did a board called “Famous Immigrants who helped shape America.”

We thought this was important because many immigrants help shape America in a good way. For example, Sergey Brin is famous for being the co-founder of Google, Oscar De La Renta is a fashion designer, and he is famous for dressing people like Hillary Clinton, Taylor Swift and more. Levi Strauss was the Founder of Levi Jeans, Isabel Allende is one of the world's most-read Spanish author. Freddy Adu is famous for being a professional soccer player. Dikembe Mutombo played in the NBA for 18 years, and Salma Hayek is a famous director, producer, and actress. Something about our display that I like is the way the pictures have a creative border and someone I liked learning about Salma Hayek because she is such a great actress.

Thanks for checking out our board,

Emely and Ashley

Isabelle and I made an awesome board on quotes from young adult literature and popular authors.

J.K. Rowling and Suzanne Collins talk about spreading messages of hope and happiness with quotes like, “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn of the light," and “Hope is the only thing stronger than fear." You can even come into the library and suggest a quote for the board. Because we will change them every month or so, most of the suggested quotes will be put up on the board.

Stop by the library today and add to our quote board,

Aiden and Issy

Harian and I made a poster about books that have been banned because it’s Banned Book Week.

We learned that books are usually banned because of inappropriate language and witchcraft. They are also banned because of alcohol use or drug use. We were surprised to find out that many books that are required reading at Angevine have been banned somewhere in the last 100 years, books like The Outsiders and The Giver.

Are you curious about what other books have been censored or banned? Stop by the library to see the list.

Harian and Andres

Also, Ms. David's 7th and 8th grade art classes made Mandalas that are also on display- stop by to see your beautiful work!

Thanks to my student aides and Ms. David for working so hard these displays!

Lastly, remember to encourage your AMS students to follow our Angevine Library Instagram account, @angevinelib- we'll post reminders and event updates, maybe even some funny memes to keep you/your kids engaged with our library. Thanks to my student aid Issy for her strong meme game (example below).

Have a great weekend, Bobcats!
